A woman is in police custody after allegedly setting a man's house ablaze following a dispute between the two in which he reportedly broke her leg.

Detectives assigned to the Clarendon Policing Division have charged 54-year-old Jennifer Bachan, also known as 'Sandra', with arson and burglary following an incident at Havannah Heights in the parish on Friday, December 12.

Bachan, a hospital attendant of the Savoy district in Christiana, Manchester, was reportedly involved in a dispute with a man in August 2025, during which he allegedly broke her left foot. The matter was reported to the police, and the man was subsequently arrested and charged.

Police reports indicate that on Friday, December 12, the man left his house earlier in the day. Later that same day, Bachan allegedly went to his home, used a key to open a room door, and set a mattress on fire.

Investigators say she then ran from the premises onto the roadway. Citizens reportedly noticed the blaze and saw Bachan fleeing the area, prompting them to alert the police and the fire brigade.

Firefighters responded and carried out cooldown procedures at the premises.

Bachan was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody on reasonable suspicion. She was later formally charged with arson and burglary following a question-and-answer interview.

Her court date is being finalised.
