Entrepreneur enlists Nicki Minaj, Skeng to help hurricane victims

Rohan Melhado, owner of Droptop Swagshop, through his Droptop Foundation, has mobilised relief efforts to assist families and communities in Westmoreland that were affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Partnering with international superstar Nicki Minaj, dancehall artiste Skeng, and other local partners, the foundation last week took food, water, and rebuilding materials to those most impacted -- helping restore hope and stability.

"Despite the challenges, our mission was clear: to serve, uplift, and empower Jamaicans during times of crisis through compassion, collaboration, and consistent action, and it was all worth it. When we got to the destinations, we forgot about the lengthy time and bad roads that we encountered along the way. These communities have been through so much, but their strength and resilience remind us why it's so important to keep showing up," Melhado said.

The businessman/music producer, who has worked with both Nicki Minaj and Skeng, said both entertainers readily jumped on board after seeing the devastation caused by the passage of the Category 5 hurricane and said they were disheartened by the loss of lives and homes.

"This hurricane leaves everyone with a heavy heart. A lot of people are left to rebuild their lives with little more than faith and determination. With the help of the artistes and local volunteers, we were also able to distribute construction materials so that people can start rebuilding as well. I personally donated high quality footwear from Droptop Swagshop to residents who had lost everything -- a gesture that brought comfort, confidence, and renewed dignity," Melhado said.

Before arriving in Hanover and Westmoreland, the Droptop Foundation participated in earlier outreach efforts in Montego Bay, St James, coordinating with community groups to address immediate needs on the ground.

"This isn't a one-time effort. Our commitment is long term, and we will continue to collaborate with those who share our mission -- to help restore stability, strengthen communities, and bring hope to Jamaica. We have deep respect for every individual and organisation doing their part," said Melhado.

"No effort is too small. Together, we can rebuild stronger, and we encourage Jamaicans from yard and abroad in supporting Jamaica's ongoing recovery through donations, supplies, or volunteer service. The need is still great, and whether it's a case of water, a few sheets of plyboard, every contribution makes a difference," he added.
