Water returns to more communities in St Elizabeth and Manchester
Water is finally flowing again for more residents across Manchester and St Elizabeth after days of dry taps caused by Hurricane Melissa's rampage.
The National Water Commission (NWC) says customers in Porus, Williamsfield, Kendal and nearby areas in Manchester are now receiving water after power was restored at its Broadleaf, Comfort and Porus facilities.
Communities now back on the grid include Porus, Trinity, Red Berry, Comfort, Broadleaf, Royal Flat, Williamsfield, Melrose Mews, Land Settlement, Hanbury, Kendal, New Green, Ingleside, sections of Grey Ground, Grove Place, Tree Chains, Patrick Road, Gordon Road, Cypclair Close, Bonitto Crescent, Crest Haven and Dorby.
Over in St Elizabeth, the NWC says its Luana Deep Well, Newell Deep Well and Old Pepper Well are being powered by generators, allowing water to reach several communities.
Those now being served include Luana, sections of Black River, Point, Middle Quarters, Bailey Ground, New Holland, Cragie, Spring Park, Pond Pen and Baptist.
Residents in Treasure Beach, Bluntas, Beacon, Ridge Pen, Newcombe Valley, Watchwell, Lewis Town and Billy's Bay are also getting water.
In addition, Pepper, New Castle, Lucky Valley, Ruinett, Phantiland, Grosmond, Goshen, Bongo Hill, Content and Wilton have been reconnected to the system.
The NWC says loading bays have been set up at its Luana and Old Pepper plants to fill water trucks, while plans are in place to restart operations at the Dalintober and Bogue Wells once access roads are cleared.
